Bechamel Sauce (Salce Beshamel)
The bechamel sauce is usually used as a topper for different dishes like pasctico, moussaka with zucchini, eggplants with bechamel, fried chicken or even pasta. This is a basic bechamel sauce but depending on the dish that you are preparing you can add more ingredients.
- 4 tbsp butter
- 3 tbsp all purpose flour
- 3 cups of milk
- 1 tsp salt
Heat the butter in a medium saucepan in medium-low heat until it melts. Add the flour and keep stirring using a whisker until a light golden color is reached 6 to 7 minutes. Meanwhile in a small pot heat the milk and pour it into the butter mixture very slowly. Continue whisking until the sauce thickened and it reaches the boiling point. You will end up with a very smooth and creamer white sauce. Remove from the oven. Season with salt and set the bechamel sauce aside until ready to use.
