Spaghetti Casserole with Cheese (Pastiço me djathe)

Level: Very Easy
Serving: 4 to 6

  • 4 cups of whole milk
  • 1 box of thick spaghetti
  • 1 cup crumbled feta cheese (goat, cow or sheep)
  • 1/2 cup Kashkaval cheese
  • 4 tbsp of stick butter cut in cubes
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • black pepper as desired
  • 5 eggs

Preheat oven on 400 degrees F. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the spaghetti to the boiling water and cook for half of the amount what it says on the package label. After boiling drain them in a colander and pour them into a baking pan. Spread the pasta evenly throughout the pan, then add crumbled feta cheese, kashkaval and butter. Meanwhile in a medium bowl whisk eggs, milk, salt and black pepper. Pour this mixture on top of the pasta on the baking pan. The mixture has to cover the pasta, if not you can add some more milk. Bake for about 30 -40 minutes or until lightly brown to reddish color. You can also add a thin layer of béchamel sauce on the top before baking.

Note: You also can use Bechamel Sauce to pour on top before baking the dish.

You can use instead of Kashkaval cheese, Greek Kayseri cheese or Italian pecorino
